Description

MHFA Training/Certification at Yale

November 11 (Saturday, Veterans Day)

The Yale Veterans Association (YVA), in partnership with the Association of Yale Alumni (AYA) and the Yale Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI), is offering an 8-hour training/certification course on Mental Health First Aid (MHFA). This course will be held on campus at Yale--specific location will be furnished to formally-registered participants--and taught by a certified instructor.

MHFA is the mental health equivalent of regular first aid. Participants are provided with the knowledge and training to respond appropriately when encountering someone who is experiencing a mental health problem/crisis, such as depression, anxiety disorders, psychosis, or substance use disorders.

Those who undergo and pass the 8-hour MHFA course will receive a certificate attesting to their completion of this program.

More than one million people have been trained/certified in MHFA, a nationally-recognized program coordinated by the National Council of Behavioral Health. MHFA is included on the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices (NREPP).

Mental health is a major concern for college campuses and universities across the country, including Yale. By becoming trained and certified in MHFA, you will be able to serve as a crucial on-the-ground 'first-responder' within the Yale community.
